Nine OMs have competed in this year's Real Tennis World Masters 2024 held in May.
The World Masters is a tournament of two halves, with the first being an international team event (Australia, France, GB and the USA) played within age groups (o50, o60, o70 and o80) at three different clubs. The second is the individual singles and doubles with players from all the countries playing within their age groups at Queen's Club.
Thank you to all who took part:
Peter Begg (3.61-66)
Simon Constantine (3.72-76)
Nigel Draffan (1.64-69)
Jonathan Fisher (2.65-70)
Tim Harper (3.62-66)
Mike Henman (5.82-87)
Mark Nicholls (9.70-74)
Philip Shaw-Hamilton (3.65-70)
Simon Shenkman (6.77-82)
There were some fantastic results for our 'old boys':
Mike Henman represented GB in the Cockram Trophy for over 50s playing singles.
Simon Shenkman represented GB in the Bostwick Cup for o60s playing singles and is now the World Over 60s Doubles Champion following a gripping three set match with Ivan Semenoff of France. Simon was also a finalist in the World Over 60s Singles losing to Mike Happell of Australia in another hard fought three sets.
Mark Nicholls became the World Over 65 Doubles Champion with John Prenn (Queen's Club), being far too strong for any opposition!
Nigel Draffan and Jonathan Fisher represented GB in the Danby Trophy for o70s playing doubles.
Philip Shaw-Hamilton captained and represented GB in the Danby Trophy for o70s and retains the World Over 70s Singles (beating Wayne Spring of Australia) and Doubles titles (with Paul Weaver of Seacourt) won in Fontainebleau two years ago.
Well done to all who played so brilliantly throughout this competition.
